Scope and Content Yorkhill Basin, Pointhouse Road, Glasgow This basin and the associated wharf were built by the Clyde Navigation Trust in about 1908, and were the last major works executed by the Trust on the upper River Clyde. The wharf was used mainly by Anchor Line services to Canada and India. This shows the basin from the north-east, with part of Yorkhill Quay to the left, and Pointhouse Shipyard to the right. The large vessel in the basin is an Anchor liner, and the small craft are hopper barges for taking dredgings to the dumping grounds. This basin was latterly used largely for the export of Scotch whisky to the United States of America, but it is now only used by visiting warships and other small vessels. Clydeport, who are now the owners, have plans to fill it in and develop the site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
