Scope and Content Bridgekeeper's cottage, Glebe Street, Forth & Clyde Canal, Glasgow This cottage housed the keeper of the Glebe Street bridge on the 'Cut of Junction' between the Forth & Clyde and Monkland Canals. The bridge was of the standard Forth & Clyde double-bascule type, where the boat crew operated one side, and the bridge-keeper the other. This shows the cottage from the north-east, with the bridge to the right. Note the angled window, which allowed the keeper to see when masted vessels were about to leave the St Rollox Chemical Works wharf, from which this photograph was taken. Shortly after this photograph was taken this section of the Cut of Junction was piped and the buildings seen here demolished to make way for the construction of the Townhead Interchange on the M8 urban motorway through Glasgow.
