Scope and Content Gravestone of Charles Millar and Janet Wright, Forgandenny Parish Church and Burial-Ground, Perth & Kinross This gravestone features a moulded border and triple-arched top. An incised panel at the top of the stone records the initials of the deceased, and the date of the stone's erection, 1753. Below are carved the emblems of a tailor: scissors, needles, a huge pin, tailor's goose (iron) and a measure. Scottish gravestones feature a wealth of imagery and symbolic devices which represent trade emblems, symbols of death and resurrection, and Biblical scenes. They offer a fascinating insight into how our ancestors saw themselves and how they wanted to be remembered, as well as providing a store of information for people interested in family or local history, and folk art. This gravestone commemorates Charles Millar who died in 1750 and Janet Wright, who died in 1729. It is inscribed: 'Here layeth/the corps of Ch/arles Millar who d/ied Dec 11 1750 aGe/d 67 also the corps/of Janet Wright his/spouse who died/novr 9 1729 her age/37'.
