Scope and Content Thornbush Brewery, Thornbush Road, Inverness, Highland This brewery was opened in about 1840, close to the east side of Inverness Harbour, which it probably used for transport before railways reached Inverness in the 1850s and 1860s. It was the larger of the town's two breweries. This shows the main range surviving in the 1960s. This was presumably the maltings, the brewhouse being out of sight to the left. In 1965 this building was being used as a seed and fertiliser store, hence the elevator reaching to the top floor in this view. This brewery was presumably the victim of competition from the large breweries of the central belt, whose economies of scale and advertising campaigns had killed off almost all small local breweries by 1960.
