Scope and Content Rose Street Foundry, Rose Street, Inverness, Highland This works was founded in 1872 as the Northern Implement & Foundry Co. They moved to new works in Rose Street in 1893, and changed their name to the Rose Street Foundry Co. Latterly the company was known as AI Welders Ltd, and specialised in making welding machines. This shows the new workshops built in 1893, in Rose Street. The large arched doorways allowed large structures to be handled. These included marine engines plus railway and suspension footbridges. The firm sold these premises to a supermarket company, and they were demolished in 1989. AI Welders Ltd moved to a new purpose-built factory on the Longman Industrial Estate, to the north-east of Inverness Town Centre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
