Scope and Content Hydro-electric power station, Inverness, Highland This hydro-electric power station was built in 1899, and was one of the first such built for public supply. It drew water from the River Ness to power low-head turbines. It was still in operation in 1965. This shows the power station from the north-west. Its small size is notable, as is the neatness of its design, necessary because of the prestige of the river in the town. The water entered on the right and left from the rear of the station. This power station was built on the site of the Bught Mill, a corn mill. It eventually passed into the ownership of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board, who subsequently closed it down.
