Scope and Content Forth & Clyde Canal Company's Office, No 174 North Speirs Wharf, Port Dundas, Glasgow The Forth & Clyde Canal was opened to a new Glasgow terminus in 1790. A basin was provided, termed Port Dundas. At the entrance to this basin from the canal, a building called the Collector's House was provided, as a canal office. This was the first building in Port Dundas. This shows the new office on North Speirs Wharf, built in 1812 round the corner from the Collector's House, to deal with the increasing business of the canal company. In 1965 this office was used by the owners of the former grain mill on the left, the Craighall Bonding Co Ltd. The Craighall Bonding Co left this site in about 1980, and the buildings, including this office, were converted into houses and offices by Windex Ltd. The canal in front is now linked to both Forth and Clyde, and to Edinburgh, by the Millennium Link, opened in 2002. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
