Scope and Content Warehouses and creamery, Cowlairs Co-operative Society, Nos 19-27 Angus Street and No 37 Kemp Street, Glasgow This complex was built between 1895 and 1911 for the Cowlairs Co-operative Society. This retail co-operative society served Springburn, which then had Scotland's largest concentration of railway engineering workshops. This shows the complex looking north-west along Angus Street. The warehouse block on the left was built in 1895, and designed by Bruce & Hay, architects. The creamery at the end is later. A lorry loaded with milk churns can just be seen through the door of the creamery. Retail co-operation was particularly strong in Glasgow in the late 19th and early 20th century, especially in areas with a large concentration of skilled tradesmen, as in Springburn.
