Scope and Content New Grange Foundry, Links Road, Bo'ness, Falkirk This works was founded in 1856 by A Ballantine & Sons as a general foundry, making a wide range of products, including road castings, architectural ironwork, and gates and railings. It was still in family ownership in 1968, when this photograph was taken. This shows the foundry yard, with a large selection of moulding boxes. These were used to make the greensand moulds into which molten iron was poured to make iron castings. This foundry is still in operation in 2002, making a wide range of castings, using modern moulding techniques. It is one of the few foundries which still makes ornamental architectural ironwork, such as gates, railings and cresting for roof ridges. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
