Scope and Content Partick West Station, Meadow Road and Dumbarton Road, Glasgow Opened in 1896, this station was built for the Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway, at the junction of lines to Dumbarton and Maryhill. It was on an embankment, and the platforms were reached by covered stairways from Meadow Road and Dumbarton Road. This shows the main station building from the east, with the site of the Dumbarton line to the left. The curved building, in the angle between the two lines, was unique in Scotland. This station had been closed since 1964, and was demolished in 1968. The Dumbarton line's route is now part of a long-distance cycleway. The Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway was built to compete with the North British Railway, so its stations were stylish and modern. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
