Scope and Content Printing Works, No 50 Darnley Street, Glasgow This works was built in 1901 for Miller & Lang, art publishers, to designs by Gordon & Dobson, architects. A warehouse to the rear was added in 1903, designed by the same architects. The front block is one of the few Art Nouveau buildings in Glasgow. This shows the building from the north-east. The use of Art Nouveau design was intended to emphasise the type of publishing undertaken by the London-based proprietors, who printed fancy stationery and Christmas cards. The architects were John Gordon and D Bennett Dobson, of No 261 West George Street, Glasgow. Gordon had been designing industrial buildings since the 1860s in a plain, but dignified style, so it is probable that Dobson was responsible for the design of this florid façade.
