Scope and Content Wellmeadow Laundry, No 72 Thornliebank Road, Glasgow This laundry was rebuilt in 1894-1902 from the Wellmeadow Bleachworks, which had been founded in the early 19th century. The proprietor of the laundry was Donald Macfarlane. It was a customer laundry. This shows the frontage of the laundry, built in 1899, which contained the office and served as a garage for the delivery vans, as seen here. This type of laundry was largely dependent on collections from and deliveries to individual households. By 1968 such laundries were coming under pressure from laundrettes and from home washing machines. This one, as can be seen here, rebranded itself as the Meadow Laundry, and branched out into dry cleaning, but it closed later in the 20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
