Scope and Content Newlandsfield Print & Bleach Works, No 109 Riverford Road, Glasgow This works was founded in about 1812 for the printing and bleaching of cotton cloth, using the water of the White Cart Water. It was situated in Pollokshaws, which was, at the time, a village with a reputation for hand-loom weaving. This shows the main part of the complex. The two-storeyed block on the left was probably part of the original works, and may well have housed hand-block printers. By 1968 the works was in multiple occupation. This was a large complex for its period, but it did not make the transition to mass production like the calico-printing works in the Vale of Leven and Barrhead. In 1901 it was occupied by Stevenson, McKellar & Co Ltd, bleachers and finishers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
