Scope and Content Hydraulic Pumping Station, No 203 Bell Street, Glasgow This station was built in about 1880 to provide water under pressure to power hoists and lifts in the large bonded warehouses built by the Glasgow & South Western Railway as part of their College Goods Station. This shows the station from the south-west. The hydraulic pump is in the low range on the left, and the tower contains a hydraulic accumulator, which stores water under pressure. The Italianate style of the tower was typical of such structures. This station was, despite appearances, still fully operational in 1968. It closed in about 1971, and was demolished. Of the warehouses it served, one has been demolished, and the other converted into flats. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
