Scope and Content North British Bottle Works (United Glass Ltd), No 479 Old Shettleston Road, Glasgow This works was founded in about 1904 by the North British Bottle Manufacturing Co Ltd to make bottles for the distilling, brewing and soft drinks trades, using automatic machines. This shows the frontage to Old Shettleston Road. The lower section of the long arcaded range towards the right is part of the original works, the brick upper works and the buildings on the left being later additions. This works was still in use in 1967 (when this photo was taken), under the ownership of United Glass Ltd, a subsidiary of The Distillers Co Ltd, which subsequently decided to concentrate its operations at its Alloa works, closing this works in 1983.
