Scope and Content Stockingfield Junction, Forth and Clyde Canal, Lochburn Road, Glasgow This is the junction between the main line of the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Glasgow branch. The main line was completed to this point in 1775, and the first part of the Glasgow Branch was opened in 1777. The Canal was completed in 1790. This shows the junction, looking from the Glasgow branch to the main line. The route to Grangemouth goes off to the right, and the extension to Bowling goes off to the left immediately beyond the quay wall, which may mark the 1775 terminus. The Canal was closed to navigation in 1962, but in 1990 the Glasgow Canal Project reopened the Glasgow branch. As part of the Millennium Link Project, the main line of the Forth and Clyde Canal reopened in 2001. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
