Scope and Content Drybrough's Brewery, Duddingston Road West, Edinburgh The area to the south of Duddingston village was developed for brewing in the late 19th century, after the opening of the Edinburgh, Suburban & Southside Junction Railway in 1884. This was one of six large breweries which were built in this area at that time. This shows the more recent part of the complex, probably a maltings. The brewery proper was probably to the right, where demolition has recently taken place. The design of this red and white brick block is similar to that of the nearby Deuchar's Brewery. The main entrance was on Peffermill Road. The back entrance was in Duddingston Road West. There was a side entrance next to Cairntows park. Drybrough & Co Ltd was founded by Andrew Drybrough in the early 19th century. It became a public limited company in 1895, perhaps at the time this brewery was built. In 1965 the concern was taken over by Watney Mann, an English company. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
