Scope and Content Warehouse, No 400 Cathedral Street, Glasgow This complex was founded in 1869 by William Graham & Co, merchants. The front block was built in two sections, in 1880 and in 1904, both designed by D Thomson, architect. The same owners also had a warehouse to the rear, in Cunningham Street. This shows the warehouse from the south-west. The 1880 building is on the left, and was symmetrical. The 1904 addition, on the right, disturbed the symmetry. The earlier section had wooden beams on cast iron columns, and the later had steel beams, also on cast iron columns. This warehouse was next to Queen Street Station, and at one time had access from it. The construction of the 1880 block followed the rebuilding of the station in the late 1870s. Grahams were merchants on a large scale, with interests in port and cotton. This warehouse was demolished in 1969-70. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
