Scope and Content Bridge Street Station, Bridge Street, Glasgow This station was built in 1890 to replace an earlier station to the north, built in 1840-1. The new station was constructed by the Caledonian Railway to cope with expanding traffic, but was superseded by the expansion of Central Station in 1899-1906. This shows the street frontage from the south-east. This range contained booking offices and stairs giving access to the platforms at second-floor level, with hotel accommodation above. There was a large train shed behind. This range, designed by James Miller, architect, was all that was left after the extension of Central Station. After many years of mixed use the block was converted to shops and flats in the 1990s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
