Scope and Content Victoria Bread & Biscuit Works, No 30 Wesleyan Street, Glasgow This works was founded in 1880 by John MacFarlane & Sons, and subsequently extended and rebuilt. It was a large complex, covering almost a whole block. The biscuit business, by then MacFarlane Lang, was transferred to Tollcross in the 1920s. This shows the complex from the south-east, after clearance of the buildings to the south. The five-storeyed plus attic block on the left was built in 1895 to designs by J M Monro, architect. The tower housed a hoist mechanism and water tank. The bread and cake part of the business continued to operate on this site, and by 1967 was owned by the Milanda Bread Co Ltd, bread and cake bakers. The bakery operated until 1974, but has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
