Scope and Content Parkhead Factory, No 49 Holywell Street, Glasgow This works was founded in 1865-6 by Clark & Struthers, gingham and pullicate (checked cotton or silk handkerchief) manufacturers, as a power-loom weaving factory. It was one of the last multi-storeyed weaving factories built in Glasgow. This shows the frontage to Holywell Street from the north-west, showing the large scale of the factory. The two-storeyed tenements may well have been built to house workers in the factory. Behind the main range were weaving sheds built in 1897. In 1967 this building was occupied by Cardowan Creameries Ltd, margarine, confectionery and fondant manufacturers. The works was close to Glasgow Celtic Football Club's Parkhead stadium, and was demolished to facilitate extension of the stadium. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
