Scope and Content Milton Colour Works, Nos 58-70 Dobbie's Loan, Glasgow This building was constructed in 1873 for James Steel Junior & Co, oil and colour works. It was one of the largest works of its kind in the city, and its mildly Gothic styling was unique among Glasgow's industrial buildings. This shows the building from the north-west. Note the Gothic treatment of the ground-floor openings. The central platform roof was probably originally ornamented with cast iron cresting. The timber store to the right was built in 1887. By 1967 this building was in the ownership of John Cochrane & Co Ltd, as part of the Townhead Wright Works, making building joinery. This area was cleared for redevelopment in the 1970s.
