Scope and Content Workshops and social club, Templeton's Carpet Factory, No 62 Templeton Street, Glasgow Templeton's carpet factory was founded on the other side of Templeton Street in 1857, in a former cotton-spinning mill. The complex was developed at intervals to the 1950s. These buildings were built in the 1920s. This shows the street frontages of the social club (centre) and the workshops, immediately to the left. The buildings on the left side are warehouses, offices and showrooms, and the houses to the right are 'model' tenements. The workshops were used for maintaining all the machinery involved in carpet weaving and finishing, not only in this central complex, but also in the various satellite factories. Similarly, the social club was a facility for all Templeton employees. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
