Scope and Content Kingston Dock, Glasgow This was Glasgow's first off-river dock. It was recommended by Thomas Telford in 1806, and the site was reserved, but it was not completed until 1867. The wooden quay walls and the transit sheds were destroyed by fire in 1914, and rebuilt in 1915. This shows the dock from the west end, during demolition in advance of the construction of the Kingston Bridge across the Clyde. The concrete quay walls and transit sheds date from the 1915 rebuilding. The entrance to the dock was on the left. This dock was used by coasting vessels until the early 1960s, but was closed in advance of the construction of the new bridge. The dock has been infilled and the transit sheds demolished. The site has been partially redeveloped. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
