Scope and Content Moorepark Boiler Works, Nos 133-61 Helen Street, Glasgow This works was founded in about 1884 by Lindsay Burnet & Co, engineers, boilermakers and steel plate flangers. The Govan Electricity Generating Station was built on an adjacent site in 1899-1911. This shows the Helen Street frontage of the complex from the north-west. The lower block at the far end of the range was the offices of the electricity generating station. The three tallest bays were probably built in 1905. By 1967, this works was occupied by British Polar Engines Ltd, makers of medium-sized marine diesel engines. Though British Polar Engines is still in operation, this particular firm became a victim of the dwindling number of medium-sized ships being built and closed c.1980. The works has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
