Scope and Content Merino-spinning mill, No 335 St Vincent Street, Glasgow This mill was built in about 1835 for C S Cochran & Co, worsted and woollen spinners, to spin merino wool imported from Australia through Glasgow harbour. It was the only large wool-spinning mill in the city then, and, indeed, for many years after. This shows the south elevation from the south-west. This view had just been revealed by the demolition of adjacent buildings. Note the brick stair-tower, typical of the period. The building had a mixed iron and timber frame. This mill did not have a long life as a wool-spinning mill, and then went through a series of uses. Its last use was as a printing works. It was demolished later in 1967 to make way for the northern approaches to the Kingston Bridge over the River Clyde. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
