Scope and Content View from east of Greig Court and Hutcheon Court, Hutcheon Street Redevelopment, Aberdeen The Hutcheon Street redevelopment contains Greig Court, a 19-storeyed slab block containing 144 flats and Hutcheon Court, a 15-storeyed slab block of 140 flats in total. Both were built for Aberdeen Housing Committee in 1973. This photograph shows the development from the east. Greig Court is on the left, and Hutcheon Court on the right. Each flat is reached by lift or stair, then by balconies on each level. The blocks are clad with pebble-faced slabs. Large developments like this were seen as the answer to Aberdeen's long waiting lists for council housing. Aberdeen did not suffer as badly as other Scottish cities which often had large areas of slums and overcrowded tenements. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
