Scope and Content Paisley (Gilmour Street) Station, Gilmour Street, Paisley, Renfrewshire This station was opened in 1840 by the Glasgow & Paisley Joint Railway, and was served by trains on the Glasgow & Greenock and Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railways. It was greatly enlarged in about 1890 to cope with increasing traffic. This shows the entrance front of the station. The platforms are at first-floor level. The original building is on the left, the curved block was added during the c.1890 expansion. The Tudor style matched that of other buildings in this square. The square seen here was pedestrianised in the late 1990s, and the windows in this façade have been replaced by single panes, but otherwise this view has changed little since this photograph was taken.
