Scope and Content Anchor Thread Works, Seedhill, Paisley, Renfrewshire This large thread manufacturing complex was founded in 1812 by J & J Clark. The firm amalgamated in 1893 with J & P Coats of the Ferguslie Mills to form the largest sewing thread company in the world. This shows the main body of the mills from the north-west. The tall blocks in the centre are the Atlantic and Pacific mills of 1872-8, with the taller link block of 1886. In front of them is the 'Old Embroidery', formerly the Seedhill Shawl Factory. This complex was run down from the 1960s. The Atlantic and Pacific Mills were demolished in 1972-3. The only sizeable buildings remaining in 2001 are the Domestic Finishing and Mile End mills, and the 'Old Embroidery' which now contains offices. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
