Scope and Content Waterloo Sawmill, Nos 73-83 McAlpine Street, Glasgow This sawmill was founded in 1895 by George Miller. The original building was three storeys high, a fourth storey being added in 1898. Both parts were designed by Neil C Duff, architect. The works was probably intended to be a manufacturing joinery works. This shows the building from the north-east, to the left of the tall warehouse on the right. The building immediately to the left is the former River Engine Works, built in about 1879 for Ruthven & Glen. This part of Glasgow was comprehensively cleared in the mid-1960s for redevelopment. The sawmill had latterly been occupied by Brown & Co (Boxes) Ltd, who specialised in making wine and whisky cases and plywood containers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
