Scope and Content Coplawhill Tramway Works and Tram Depot, Albert Drive, Glasgow (Glasgow City council area) This large complex started as a horse-tram depot built for the takeover by Glasgow Corporation of horse-tram services in the city. When the city tramways were electrified in 1899-1900 tramcar building and maintenance workshops were added. This view shows the frontage of the horse-tram depot to Pollokshaws Road. The building was stone fronted because it was in a residential area. It had car sheds on the ground floor and stable on the first floor, with ramps for the horses. After 1962, when the tramways finally closed, part of the works was converted into a transport museum, and a museum store. The museum was moved to the Kelvin Hall some years later, and the area is now a venue for performing and visual arts. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
