Date 11/9/1966

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 591479

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Railway viaduct, Dalmarnock, Glasgow (Glasgow City council area) This was the eastern one of a pair of parallel viaducts over the river Clyde, and was built in 1893 to carry the Glasgow Central Railway over the river Clyde. This view shows the viaduct from the south west. The main spans are steel arches supported on sandstone-faced piers, and the side spans have brick arches. This structure is one of very few steel arched viaducts in Scotland. It was retained when the Glasgow Central Railway was electrified as the Argyle Line, and is still in use. The western one has had its superstructure removed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
