Scope and Content Barrowfield Spinning Mill, No 177 Reid Street, Glasgow Built c.1846 for Peter Bogle & Co, this mill was one of the last cotton-spinning mills to be built during the heyday of the industry in Glasgow. Its design was notably plain and utilitarian, with no ornamentation to its brickwork. This shows the five-storeyed mill from the west. The water tower was added in 1884, probably to serve a sprinkler system for fire control. The flat-roofed extension in front may well have been a remodelling of an earlier structure. This complex was still in use in 1967, as a hosiery works, by the Scottish Hosiery Co, and was well-kept. It has, however, since been demolished and the site redeveloped.
