Scope and Content Barrowfield Spinning Mill, No 177 Reid Street, Glasgow This mill was built c.1846 for cotton spinning by Peter Bogle & Co, and was one of the last cotton-spinning mills built during the heyday of the industry in Glasgow. It was notably utilitarian in appearance. This shows the five-storeyed mill from the south-west, with part of the Barrowfield Oil & Colour Works to the right. The water tower was added in 1884, probably to serve a sprinkler system for fire control. This complex was still in use in 1967, as a hosiery works, by the Scottish Hosiery Co, and was well-kept. It has, however, since been demolished and the site redeveloped. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
