Scope and Content Railway bridges, Dalmarnock, Glasgow The first of these bridges was built c.1858 to carry a branch line from Rutherglen to a goods and mineral station at London Road. The second was built 1893-7 for the Glasgow Central Railway's route under central Glasgow to the west. This shows the bridges from the west. The earlier one is in front, with bowed wrought-iron main trusses on cast iron piers. The later one has arched steel spans on masonry piers. Dalmarnock Power Station is in the background (left). The earlier bridge seems to have been the earliest example of a type that was popular in the 1860s. It has now lost its superstructure, but the piers remain. The other is used by Argyle Line electric trains. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
