Scope and Content Bonded warehouse, Nos 105-69 Bell Street, Glasgow This warehouse was built in 1882-3 by the Glasgow & South Western Railway as an adjunct to their College Goods Station. Hydraulic hoists at the rear gave direct access to railway facilities. It was built to cater for the whisky blending trade. This shows the warehouse from the south-west when it was being used as an ale store by Bass Mitchells & Butlers Ltd. Note that each section of the warehouse had its own cart entry, reflecting internal divisions. This was the largest 19th-century warehouse in Glasgow. It was of fire-resistant construction, with cast-iron beams and columns supporting arched concrete floors and was fitted with hydraulic machinery from the start. It is now in residential use.
