Scope and Content Eagle Pottery, No 60 Boden Street, Glasgow This pottery was established in 1869 by Frederick Grosvenor, earthenware manufacture, and extended on six occasions between then and 1891. In 1881 it was known as the Bridgeton Pottery, and was making stoneware. This shows the front buildings, looking south-west along Boden Street. The monogram in the pediment is the date 1869, so this section of the works may be original. Behind this façade were the kilns used for firing the ware made in the front buildings. Glasgow had a flourishing pottery industry in the 19th century, largely making goods for export. The stoneware industry's main output was bottles for beer and soft drinks, and whisky jars. This trade declined after glass bottle machinery was developed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
