Scope and Content Anderston Grain Mill, No 27 Washington Street, Glasgow The oldest part of this complex was a four-storeyed masonry building, later given an additional storey in brick, which was built as a cotton store. It was converted into a grain mill in 1865, when a five-storeyed red and white brick block was added. This shows the complex from the north-east, with the former cotton store in the middle. To the left can be seen the white brick arches at the top of the 1865 addition. The lower masonry building may have been an engine house. In 1967 this mill was still owned by the firm who converted it in 1865, Harvie & McGavin and who were using it for milling rice. It later closed, and remained empty for many years. A hotel has now been built on the site, incorporating the 1865 block. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
