Scope and Content Dalmarnock Tram Depot, No 45 Ruby Street, Glasgow This depot was established for horse trams in 1893 by Glasgow Corporation, prior to its taking over operation of the city's street tramways. It was greatly extended in 1899 and 1903 to house electric trams. This shows the depot during demolition. As can be seen there were wooden roof trusses supported on steel joists carried by tall cast iron columns. Inside the shed are the platforms used to clean the upper decks of the tramcars. This was one of the largest tram depots in Glasgow, and remained in operation until the closure of the tram system in 1962. It was badly damaged by fire in the late 1950s, and demolished, as seen here, in 1967. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
