Scope and Content St Enoch Station, 15-65 St Enoch Square, Glasgow (Glasgow City council area) The first part of this large station was completed to a temporary terminus at Dunlop Street in 1870. The main station with its dramatic arched roof was completed in 1876, and the hotel and offices in 1879. It was extended to the south in 1898-1902. This view shows the station frontage to St Enoch Square. The pedestrian entrances to the station were under the glazed awning, with the carriage entrance to the right. The rest of the building was the station hotel. The station was closed to rail traffic in 1966, and was used for a number of years as a car park before being replaced by the St Enoch Centre, a shopping mall with, curiously, a glazed overall roof.
