Scope and Content Bowbridge Jute Works, Dens Road, Dundee (Dundee City council area) This was a large jute works, built for J and AD Grimond. The front block, the spinning mill, was begun in 1857-8, and completed in 1885. Behind it were extensive warehouses and weaving sheds. This view shows the front block from the south east. Its great length is evident: it was 32 bays long, making it the longest single block in the Dundee linen trade. This works was considered a model in its day, but failed to keep pace with technical change. It was demolished in stages: the spinning mill went in 1984, and the factory behind in 1987.
