Scope and Content Constable Jute Works, Dens Road and Dura Street, Dundee (Dundee City council area) This was a medium-sized jute spinning and weaving complex, established c1850, but built up over a period. The block facing Dura Street was the finest architecturally, with its integral engine house on its west end. This view shows the Dura Street block from the south west, showing the engine house with its rusticated ground floor, and heavy cornice and blocking course, carried through the rest of the block to give it architectural unity. This works belonged to Malcolm, Ogilvie and Co. The block in this view was constructed c1855. The firm moved out in 1970, and the complex was demolished in 1971. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
