Scope and Content Johnstone Railway Station, Thorn Brae, Johnstone, Renfrewshire Johnstone Railway Station, opened in 1840 by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway, was completely remodelled by the Glasgow & South Western Railway in about 1890, to accommodate an increase in rail traffic. This shows the wooden building on the Ayr-bound platform. It is typical in construction to other Glasgow & South Western wooden station buildings, but is more elaborate than most secondary structures. This line has now been electrified, and the awnings have been removed. The wooden building on the Ayr-bound platform has gone, and the footbridge has been replaced.
