Scope and Content Domestic Finishing Mill, Anchor Thread Works, Seedhill, Paisley, Renfrewshire Brothers James and John Clark founded these mills in 1812 to begin manufacturing cotton thread. Due to the large-scale manufacture of sewing machines, the cotton thread trade expanded dramatically and Clarks prospered. This shows the Domestic Finishing Mill from the north-west. The building was designed by W J Morley of Bradford, and has a full-height atrium. It was used for winding thread on spools for sale. To the right are the Saucel Mills (grain). This mill survived the demolition of most of the complex from the 1970s, and is to be converted into flats, retaining most of the original fireproof brick-arched internal construction.
