Scope and Content Govan Goods Station, Govan Road, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) The Govan branch from the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway was opened to both passengers and goods, but passenger services were badly affected by the electrification of the Glasgow tramways in 1901-2, and ceased in 1921. This view shows the station being used for the transfer of the former Caledonian Railway locomotive number 123 from railway to a heavy road trailer for movement into the Glasgow Transport Museum at Coplawhill, with the goods shed behind. In this view the locomotive is being lowered on to baulks of timber place on the bed of the trailer. Note the size of the goods shed in the background, indicative of the earlier importance of Govan as an industrial centre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
