Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Govan Goods Station, Govan Road, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) The Govan branch from the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway was opened to both passengers and goods, but passenger services were badly affected by the electrification of the Glasgow tramways in 1901-2, and ceased in 1921. This view shows the station being used for the transfer of the former Caledonian Railway locomotive number 123 from railway to a heavy road trailer for movement into the Glasgow Transport Museum at Coplawhill, with the goods shed behind. Between the locomotive and the cranes in this view is the heavy tractor which was to haul the trailer to the museum. It was itself almost a museum piece by 1966.
