Scope and Content Cabinet Works, No 53 Kent Road, Glasgow This works was founded in 1879 by Wylie & Lochhead, Glasgow's premier firm of interior furnishers from the later 19th century to the mid-20th century. The Kent Road block was designed by James Sellars, one of the city's leading architects. This shows the Kent Road building from the north-east, with a flat-roofed extension of 1900 to the left. The attic of the Kent Road block is a later modification. Note the specially designed cast iron railings. The original block was designed to fit into a district of high-class tenements and terraces, and was opposite the St Andrews Halls, Glasgow's premier concert halls, which were also designed by Sellars. The complex was converted to flats in the 1980s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
