Scope and Content Queen Street Station, West George Street, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This station was opened in 1842 by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, and was Glasgow's first city-centre terminus. It was rebuilt and extended c1880, with an overall roof built by P and W MacLellan to designs by James Carsewell. This view shows the station from the south east, with the c1880 roof to the right. The building in the centre was used as railway offices, though it may not have been built as such. To the left is part of a church bought by the railway as offices. The buildings in front of the overall roof were demolished in the late 1960s, and replaced by offices, station facilities, and bedrooms for the former North British Hotel.
