Scope and Content Crownpoint Carpet Works, 14 St Marnock Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This works was founded in 1855 by J and JS Templeton for the manufacture of Brussels carpets. The original part seems to have been a block of single-storey weaving sheds, extended in 1899. The front block was added in 1886 to designs by G and A Harvey. This view shows the size tank supplying size to the warp steamer in the works, where the jute yarn forming the warp threads of the carpets were treated with size and dried on steam-heated drums. This tank was made by T Parkinson, Blackburn. This factory continued in operation until 1967, making spool Axminster carpets. It was powered by two steam-driven generating sets, one with a horizontal engine by Fullerton, Hodgart and Barclay, and the other a vertical engine by Belliss and Morcom.
