Scope and Content Crownpoint Carpet Works, 14 St Marnock Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This works was founded in 1855 by J and JS Templeton for the manufacture of Brussels carpets. The original part seems to have been a block of single-storey weaving sheds, extended in 1899. The front block was added in 1886 to designs by G and A Harvey. This view shows one of the two steam engines which powered the works, driving direct-current generators. This one was built by Belliss and Morcom of Birmingham, and was of their standard high-speed compound type. It is seen here running. This factory continued in operation until 1967, making spool Axminster carpets. It was the last Glasgow textile mill to be steam-powered. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
